Saclà arrived in Australia in 1978 imported by Conga Foods, a company with a long Italian heritage specializing in gourmet Mediterranean foods and along with Saclà was responsible for providing the new Australians, delights from their homeland.
Australia’s short history was born upon migration, over the last 200 years, people have journeyed from all over the world to resettle in this distant land most notably the new Italians who endured incredible hardships to forge successful lives from nothing and helped Australia to become what it is today.
By the mid nineteenth century, Italians had begun to be recognized as a growing proportion of the Australian population. For a long time the only way to enjoy the fruits of Italy was by growing and producing their own, maintaining the traditions of their homeland regions with the limited ingredients they could get their hands on.
In turn the Italian migrant’s influence on Australia’s cuisine had a deep and a profound effect, they made their mark by showing Australians about the pleasures of life at and beyond the table – through food, wine, conversation, art and music. Which was very different to that of the predominant Anglo Celtic population amongst who they were to makes their lives.
